The Magician Tarot Card Meaning

The Magician has every tool he needs laid out in front of him, and so do you. This card says you already have the skills, resources and focus to make something happen. It's the card of turning ideas into reality through action and willpower. When the Magician shows up, it's time to stop waiting and start doing.

Reversed, the Magician can mean your talents are going unused, or your energy is spread too thin to make progress. It can also warn about someone who is all talk, or who is using charm to manipulate. Check the facts before you trust a smooth promise.

At work, the Magician is a great sign for launching a business, pitching an idea, or using your skills in a new way. Money comes when you put your talents to work.

The Magician is linked to Mercury, the planet of communication, skill and quick thinking. That energy colors everything this card means.

As card number I of the Major Arcana, The Magician marks a stage in the Fool's Journey, the story of growth the Major Arcana tells from beginning to end.

The Major Arcana are the 22 big-picture cards of the deck. They show major life lessons, turning points and the bigger forces at work in your story. When a Major Arcana card shows up, pay extra attention: the message is important and often has to do with your soul's growth, not just day-to-day events.
